Coral Springs Emergency Physician Elected to Leadership
Position in National Organization
New ACEP Board Member
Dr. Andy Bern
ORLANDO, FLA. - The Florida College of Emergency Physicians (FCEP)
is pleased to announce that Andrew I. Bern, MD, FACEP, of Coral
Springs, has been elected to the American College of Emergency
Physicians (ACEP) Board of Directors. Dr. Bern, an attending emergency
physician at Delray Medical Center in Delray Beach (a Level II Trauma
Center, JCAHO certified Stroke Center with an active PCI interventional
cardiac program), has been a practicing emergency physician since 1978,
joined FCEP in 1984, and served as a member of the FCEP Board of
Directors from 1985-1990. He was Treasurer from 1987-89.
“I am excited and honored to be elected to the national ACEP Board and
look forward to putting my energy, vision, and passion into the work
ahead for our patients and our members,” said Dr. Bern. “I am grateful
for the talent and hard work from the Councillors and Board members of
the Florida College of Emergency Physicians and the Disaster Medical
Section whose advocacy for my candidacy was critical in my successful
election.”
Over the course of his 29-year membership with ACEP, Dr. Bern has served
as a Councillor, alternate Councillor and member of the Steering
Committee in the National Representative Council. He has chaired or been
a member of national committees in six critical areas including Finance,
Membership, Education, Communications, Advocacy, and Leadership. He is a
member of the National Spokesperson and 911 Network and a 911 Team
Captain. He is the founder of the Disaster Medicine Section and
spearheaded the initiatives that established membership sections and the
college grant center program. He has served as both program coordinator
for disaster conferences and has been a speaker at national and chapter
events in Indiana, Illinois, Tennessee, Ohio, Michigan, Georgia, Nevada,
Washington, D.C., and Florida. He has lectured at the Organized Medical
Staff Section (representing leaders of hospital medical staffs) of the
American Medical Association (AMA) on disasters, and has spoken at the
Section Leadership track at the Washington, D.C. Leadership and Advocacy
program. He has written extensively on disaster topics.
Dr. Bern earned his medical degree at State University of New York at
Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn. He completed his emergency
medicine residency at the Affiliated Hospitals of the University of
Louisville, Kentucky, and an internal medicine residency at State
University of New York at Downstate Medical Center.
The Florida College of Emergency Physicians (FCEP)
represents more than 1,100 emergency physicians in the state
of Florida. FCEP members represent the health care safety
net of Florida’s residents and visitors. More than seven
million patients seek care annually in Florida emergency
departments. FCEP was founded on Oct. 15, 1971 and is
headquartered in Orlando.
