“There is no greater reward, then an award bestowed upon you by your peers for outstanding leadership and commitment to emergency medicine,” said Dr. Bern. “The William T. Haeck Member of the Year Award honors the first president of the Florida College of Emergency Physicians for his vision and leadership in providing the foundation for our statewide organization. I was completely surprised when my name was announced as the winner of this award. I am moved and appreciate the recognition of my peers for my contributions to the college this year. I am very honored to receive this award.”

Dr. Bern served on the FCEP Board of Directors from 1985-1990. His service to FCEP and national ACEP has been exemplary, and he has participated with numerous ACEP committees, including education; long range planning; section affairs; the 911 Legislative Network; emergency medical services (EMS); and disaster medical services/emergency preparedness. He has served on the ACEP Chapter Grant Task Force Committee and the Chapter Affairs Section. In Florida, Dr. Bern has served as a member of the Governor’s Task Force on Disaster and Emergency Preparedness, and a member of the Technical Advisory Panel on Disaster and Emergency Preparedness. He has also served as a consultant/reviewer for Annals of Emergency Medicine.

The Florida College of Emergency Physicians (FCEP) represents more than 1,200 emergency physicians in the state of Florida.
