FCEP Mourns Passing of Past President
Emmett "Bud" Ferguson
It is with great sadness that we must report that Emmett "Bud"
Ferguson, Jr., MD, FACEP, the Florida College of Emergency
Physicians' 20th president, passed away on Jan. 27. Dr.
Ferguson, who made his home in Merritt Island, Florida, served
as FCEP president in 1991-92. He was 75.
Dr. Ferguson was born in Augusta, Arkansas, and attended the
University of Oklahoma for undergraduate and medical school
(class of '58). He joined the U.S. Air Force after completing
his internship at Orange Memorial (ORMC) in Orlando. He proudly
served his country for 23 years before returning to the Space
Coast in 1983.
Dr. Ferguson most recently served as the medical director for
the Antarctica National Science Foundation Program. He has also
remained very active in civic and professional organizations
locally and nationally, touching many lives through his
endeavors. He dedicated his life to improving his community and
nation, excelling scholastically and maintaining a lifelong love
of learning and teaching.
Dr. Ferguson is survived by his loving wife, Annette; and their
four children; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
There will be a gathering to celebrate his life on Saturday,
January 31, 2009 at 3 p.m., at his home in Merritt Island (2945
Newfound Harbor Drive, Merritt Island, FL 32952). In lieu of
flowers, the family requests donations be considered for the
Merritt Island Wildlife Association or the Emergency Medicine
